IV Cannulation Arm Wrap

Designed for clinical educators, this adult-sized IV wrap provides safe, realistic cannulation training. Featuring a mouldable thermo-plastic base and super-soft silicone skin, it allows practice directly on a human arm or mannequin with anatomical accuracy and tactile realism.

The MEDICFX IV Cannulation Arm Wrap (MW080) is a versatile training solution for simulation centres, emergency response teams, and military medical training. Its unique thermo-plastic protective layer softens with hot water, allowing it to be moulded safely around a human arm or mannequin, providing a stable and realistic cannulation surface.

The model replicates real tissue resistance with a multi-layered construction of silicone skin, muscle, and embedded veins. Two partly visible and fully palpable veins enable realistic vein location, cannulation, and blood draw procedures. Flashback is achievable by maintaining pressure on the proximal syringe, enhancing the simulation experience.

Durable, easy to set up, and compatible with both standardised patients and static training models, the MW080 is designed to extend training realism while supporting learner safety. Minor surface perforations that develop through repeated use can be easily repaired using MEDICFX platinum silicone repair kits, ensuring ongoing usability.

Key Features:

Anatomical Accuracy: Two palpable, visible silicone veins for realistic practice.

Mouldable Base: Thermo-plastic layer conforms to human limbs or mannequins.

High-Quality Materials: Platinum-grade soft silicone skin and muscle layers.

Realistic Flashback: Flashback achieved by maintaining pressure on the proximal syringe.

Training Versatility: Suitable for civilian, military, field, and emergency scenarios.

Durability: Replaceable tubing and silicone skin repairable with MEDICFX kits.

Ease of Application: Velcro attachment system for quick, secure fitting.

Use Case Scenarios:

  • OSCE and clinical skills assessments

  • Military and field trauma simulations

  • Paramedic and nursing education

  • Emergency response team training

  • Standardised patient simulations

  • Phlebotomy practice sessions

Included Components:

  • Silicone skin layer

  • Silicone muscle layer

  • Thermo-plastic protective layer

  • Tubing and replacement tubing

  • Velcro attachment strips

  • 30ml syringe

  • 10ml syringe

How to Use the IV Cannulation Arm Wrap:

Prepare the Wrap:

  1. Soften the thermo-plastic layer with hot water.

  2. Dry it thoroughly and ensure it is cool enough to apply to the subject's skin while remaining malleable.

  3. Place the muscle layer on top of the thermo-plastic layer.

  4. Lay the vessels into the grooves in the muscle layer.

  5. Attach the Velcro underlayer.

  6. Apply the skin layer over the assembly.

Set Up for Cannulation:

  1. Fill the 30ml syringe with red-tinted water.

  2. Connect the 30ml syringe to the distal luer lock, and the 10ml syringe to the proximal luer lock.

  3. Prime the vessel tubing until the 10ml syringe is full.

  4. Remove the 30ml syringe and conceal the filling end if desired.

  5. Apply light pressure to the 10ml syringe to simulate flashback during cannulation.

  6. Use 22-gauge cannulas or smaller for best longevity.

After Use:

  • Tubes can be rotated or replaced as needed.

  • To replace tubing, disconnect the luer locks, remove the tubing, and insert replacements with light petroleum jelly lubrication before reattaching connectors.

Additional Information:

  • Flashback Simulation:
This model can achieve realistic flashback when pressure is maintained on the proximal syringe during cannulation.

  • Model Maintenance:
Repeated needle insertion may cause small leaks at previous puncture sites. Over time, surface perforations may appear — these can be easily repaired using a MEDICFX platinum silicone repair kit.

Repair Instructions:

  1. Clean the area with alcohol.

  2. Mix equal parts A and B silicone repair compounds.

  3. Stretch the perforated area slightly and apply silicone into the holes.

  4. Release the stretch and wipe away any excess with a tissue.

  5. Allow to cure for approximately 1 hour.

Care Instructions:

  • Wash the model with warm water and dry thoroughly after use.

  • Apply talc powder to dull shiny surfaces if needed.

  • Ensure the product is clean and dry before storing.

  • Flush lines with iso-alcohol to prevent mould growth.

  • Store in a cool, dry environment, away from direct sunlight.

Warranty:

MEDICFX warrants that its products are of high quality and reasonably fit for simulation training purposes.

  • Faulty or damaged products must be reported with photographic evidence within one week of delivery.

  • If fabrication faults are confirmed, the product will be repaired, replaced, or refunded.

  • A six-month warranty applies to silicone components with normal, gentle use.

  • As each model is handmade, minor imperfections and slight variations from web shop images may occur.
