Select an appliance in the correct size and skin tone.
This is especially important when using the same appliance across multiple training sessions with the same manikin or actor.
Custom orders are available for specific sizing and skin tone needs.
Stretch the appliance carefully over the hand, foot, or limb.
It should fit snugly and hold its position without slipping.
MEDICFX silicone appliances can be coloured using grease-based or alcohol-activated paints.
These colours are temporary and removable.
Do not attempt to change the overall skin tone of the appliance — but you can apply bruising, dirt, or simulated effects for added realism.
Fake blood can be added.
Note: water-based blood may bead on silicone surfaces. Dab gently for better adhesion or use silicone-compatible blood products for best results.
Our appliances are built to be treated like actual wounds:
They can be taped, bandaged, irrigated, and cleaned
Use warm or cold water and isopropyl alcohol
Some wounds with mesh backing can be cut open and sutured closed repeatedly for procedural practice
Remove the appliance carefully
Wash under lukewarm water
Dry with a cloth or paper towel. Use a hairdryer for drying inside folds or deeper areas
Lightly powder with baby or talcum powder
Store in a plastic bag or box in a cool, dark place
All MEDICFX appliances are made with high-grade silicone that resists tearing and wear.
With proper care, they can withstand multiple training sessions.
Normal wear and tear will occur over time. Larger appliances can be repaired and repainted. (See: How to Repair Your Silicone Appliance)
